Former CIA agent Valerie Plame Wilson on Thursday tweeted an article that argued American Jews are pushing for war in the Middle East, specifically with Iran.

The article, titled “America’s Jews Are Driving America’s Wars,” is featured in The Unz Review, an online magazine that bills itself as an “alternative” to the “mainstream media.”

After several minutes of questions from Twitter users who were shocked by her tweet, Wilson doubled down, arguing critics should read the article and “put aside” any biases.

“1) First of all, calm down. Re-tweets don't imply endorsement. Yes, very provocative, but thoughtful. Many neocon hawks ARE Jewish,” Wilson said.

For those American Jews who lack any shred of integrity, the media should be required to label them at the bottom of the television screen whenever they pop up, e.g. Bill Kristol is “Jewish and an outspoken supporter of the state of Israel.” That would be kind-of-like a warning label on a bottle of rat poison – translating roughly as “ingest even the tiniest little dosage of the nonsense spewed by Bill Kristol at your own peril.”

Holy shit, where to begin? Well, I don't even want to really touch the above paragraph, for fear of contamination. But Giraldi has some more serious points that are similarly completely mistaken. For example:

One might also add that neocons as a group were founded by Jews and are largely Jewish, hence their universal attachment to the state of Israel. They first rose into prominence when they obtained a number of national security positions during the Reagan Administration and their ascendancy was completed when they staffed senior positions in the Pentagon and White House under George W. Bush.

While it might be true that a lot of prominent neoconservatives are Jewish, the reverse is much less true; that is, not very many Jews are neoconservative. Jewish Americans are overwhelmingly left-leaning. Probably not very many voted for George W. Bush, either.

Giraldi also wants to argue that neoconservatives are attached to the state of Israel in large part because they are Jewish. Huh? Many groups in the US are much closer to uniform support for Israel than American Jews (evangelicals, for one). And for every prominent Jewish neoconservative Giraldi can name, I'm sure I could name an American Jew who is highly critical of Israel (Noam Chomsky, Judith Butler, Max Blumenthal, Norman Finkelstein, et cetera et cetera).

What a trash article.

And LOL at Valerie Plame for thinking Giraldi has anything close to a valid point here.

As far as apologies go, those tweets aren't bad, but they're a little late. Are we really to believe she shared an article without reading it?? and if so, what does that suggest about her positions and thoughts on the subject?

I like to be a person who accepts sincere apologies, but I'm not convinced this is sincere. Not when it took so long to come to. And I don't believe it'll make me more sympathetic to any positions she takes in the future.

However, it might be time to stop the pile on.

I could buy that she posted an article without reading it, but she also chastised her critics by claiming THEY had failed to read it. Plus she posted more than one such article which she allegedly failed to read.

At best, she was extremely careless.

But I agree with Vince that it's time to end the pile-on, unless she does something else idiotic. The apology is a pretty good one, as far as that goes, although, yes, a bit late.

She said in a statement released Thursday that she moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico, the day after Scooter Libby, then-Vice President Dick Cheney's former chief of staff, was convicted for lying about his role in the leak.

"My career in the CIA was cut short by partisan politics, but I'm not done serving our country," said Plame, who is running as a Democrat, in a statement. "We need more people in Congress with the courage to stand up for what's right."

Valarie Plame wouldn't be the first person to retweet or repost a link from a sketchy website (and that is a very sketchy website). There's been more than a few folks right on this board that have done the same thing. This is a "gotcha" incident that has been conflated by some as proof that Plame is a "raging anti-Semite." Her ex-hubby Joe Wilson is right that a retweet is not necessarily an endorsement. If it is then the thug in the White House is guiltier than Plame has ever been of retweeting/endorsing some really foul stuff. including one with more than a whiff of "raging anti-Semitism" to it.

The New Mexico congressional seat is pretty much a lock for whomever the Democratic candidate is and Plame isn't alone in vying for it, so she's far from a lock to win it. Maybe Plame will never be the congressional representative whose CIA identity was outed by Evil Dick Cheney's Chief of Staff. Then again, maybe Plame will become the congressional representative whose CIA identity was outed by Evil Dick Cheney's Chief of Staff who was later pardoned by the Thug-In-Chief.
