Please, please, please make it be Romney. Is that asking so much?

Please, please, please make it be Romney. Is that asking so much? Might be asking too much. Giuliani is advising Trump to not pick Romney because he said Romnwy went over the line in criticizing Trump during the campaign. I'm on my phone and putting the link is a pain in the behind, but it was in the Fox News story about Giuliani dropping out of contention for SOS. Then again, does Trump listen to advisors?🤔

Frankly, I will have no respect for Romney if he takes a position in Trump's administration. If you say this about a man, then kiss his ass when he's in power, you deserve to spend the rest of your life as a footstool.

Maybe this is naive of me, but I think Romney could justifiably accept the SoS position in order to serve the United States and its people.

If you say this about a man, then kiss his ass when he's in power, you deserve to spend the rest of your life as a footstool. To the extent he might take the role for mere personal advancement, I'd agree -- it is a despicable thing to kiss the ass of someone you despise just so you get a boost. But I think there's a lot more at stake here -- like, our country. Romney, if offered the position, would have a chance of bringing a more moderate voice to the Trump administration, of keeping a rein on foreign policy, of mitigating some of the damage Trump and some of his more extreme appointees might do. I loathe Trump. But if offered such a position in his cabinet (ha! as if), I might take it for those reasons. I wouldn't truckle and kiss his ass, so he might well fire me. But I'd give it a shot, for the chance of doing some good for the country. Despise me if you must. See, it's a little like when Rob offered me a mod slot on this website...

Isn't it kind of funny, though, that Mitt Romney, of all people, is being offered as a "reasonable" voice to try to save democracy from Donald Trump?
I mean, he wasn't the worst Republican candidate ever, but he's still no one's idea of a great statesman.

Heh. Everything is relative.
Romney earned points with me for speaking out against Trump.
I still wouldn't want to see him working on domestic policy, as I feel he is "out of touch" with everyday Americans at times, but he does seem temperamentally suited for foreign diplomatic relations.
These are all just impressions, of course.

These are all just impressions, of course. This is also my take. I also have the strong impression that, while I might not agree with him on many things, he genuinely is more interested in the welfare of his country than in his own ego. Also, we've got to take a look at what other options Trump is considering. For my taste, Romney is as good as we're going to get in the Trump administration.
