Yeah, it's symbolic bullshit and it's completely unnecessary. Just another thing for people to virtue signal about. I think it's bad for them to not take it and also to publicly announce that they're not taking it, simply because there's already a bunch of FUD out there about the vaccine (and vaccines in general). So, those people might see public officials refusing to take it as evidence confirming their anti-vax conspiracy theories and actually lead to more people refusing to get vaccinated. The potential for deadly backfire effects here far outweigh the dumb virtuous moral grandstanding reasons these idiot politicians are claiming.

The call to vaccinate the elderly to "protect them" is such a strawman.
Yes, the elderly do need protection, and certainly much more than we've seemed able to give them since Cuomo started sending COVID positive patients back into nursing homes back in March. But the answer isn't mass vaccination of the elderly.
Essential workers and those who HAVE to be out in the public working should be the highest priority. The elderly can be much more easily isolated and protected by the typical mask/social distance measures.

I can't speak for the US, but in Canada it's absolutely crucial that they vaccinate the elderly first (as in, along with essential medical workers). I forget the exact number, but something like 90% of all COVID deaths in Ontario were in the elderly (much like NY, we had several outbreaks in nursing homes up here).

The elderly comprise the largest percentage of COVID deaths in the US as well.
But I don't think susceptibility to death should be THE driving factor behind vaccination.

Geez. Dude just got elected. Way too young to go, especially like that.
RIP.
This vaccine distribution needs to hurry the hell up.

Tragic. Social media is showing its predictable druthers, once again. God, I despise people.

Bias? What bias?
Mike Pence says this:
Uber-clever reporter sets the record straight:
Lol. Again:
It's not true that one plus one equals two. In fact, one plus one equals two.

It's at least a little nice to see that idiot getting roasted by most of the replies to her idiotic "millions" tweet.
But, to be fair, Pence is moving the goalposts here. The original claim was that they would have "vaccinated 20 million people" by the end of the year, NOT that they would "distribute 20 million vaccines."
That's sort of like your boss telling you "the money will be in your account on Tuesday" and then later saying "I'll mail the check on Tuesday" and trying to pretend those mean the same thing.

I personally love how people are complaining the goal of 20 million vaccinated isn't going to be made by the end of this month. I love it even more when you realize the people complaining the most are largely the same people that said there is no way in Hell a vaccine would be available before 2021.

I almost added a but in my post that said something like "we expect politicians to stretch the truth or be misleading, but journalists who are covering their statements, we expect them to be a little better." Anyway, she's doubled down on her stupidity: Jeeze.
