It's amazing how much personal information was obtained and published about that guy so quickly after the incident. Why even bother to delete your Twitter account? It boggles how people, even highly educated ones like this guy, don't think when they post. Then again, he does live in an academic bubble, so maybe he thought everyone would cheer them on?

So is this the kind of "resistance" the progressive left is advocating to a Trump administration? Harassing everyone associated with him whenever they go out in public?

PSA: Anecdotes are not evidence. Evidence of what? I was being a bit sarcastic with my question - I don't actually believe there is an organized campaign to harass Trump's family (yet). I do believe a lot of lefties find this behavior acceptable. OTOH, Obama has been taking a shit-ton of racist bullshit for years and a lot of righties seem to have thought that was okay, or at least not serious enough to issue more than pro forma "I'm not racist" disavowals. I think the Left in general is kind of losing its mind over Trump. Whether "Trump Derangement Syndrome" is really more significant than "Obama Derangement Syndrome" or "Bush Derangement Syndrome" remains TBD.

Evidence of "this is the kind of resistance Progressives are advocating." And basically everything you said following "Evidence of what?"
If you were just being sarcastic, you needed an emoticon, imo.
I don't consider myself a "leftie" and I haven't "lost my mind" over Trump, and though he is fucking appalling in ways that cannot hold a candle to whatever people's issues were with Obama or Bush, I would never in a million years condone, let alone advocate for, the harassment of the future first lady or her family, or anyone who voted for Trump, nor do any of the things that "make the news" these days.
Same as millions of other people who are appalled at the idea of Trump as President.
Same as millions of Republicans who would not condone the words or actions of racists against Obama or his supporters.
Ya'll need to get a grip and either stop reading what the media is dishing out altogether or engage your critical thinking skills and see it for what it is. Anecdotal crazy shit that MAKES NEWS. (And... TMZ? Heavy? Of course, we "heard it first" from them.)
The very title of this thread makes me doubt, once again, that we are aiming for thoughtful political discussion here. I'm sick to death already of the liberal/progressive/Hillary-lovers/Trump-haters bashing.
Though to be clear, in many threads, there is intelligent and thoughtful discourse. In others, like this one, not so much.

I don't do emoticons. (Well, rarely. ) I will grant you that "Look at what this one idiot did" posts are low-hanging confirmation bias fruit, but not every thread is going to meet everyone's criteria for thoughtfulness.

Chrissy, with all due respect, please read the first sentence of Rob's post and the title. The topic of Rob's thread is people acting like assholes and bragging about it on social media, without seeming to realize what assholes they are being. Which, alas, seems to be an increasing trend.
It so happens this particular event involved some moron guy telling off Ivanka Trump -- in front of her kids, and in front of his, for, basically, being her dad's daughter, which is inappropriate whatever one thinks of Ivanka Trump. Then his husband brags like the moron was a hero -- which he wasn't. He was an asshole. I submit that's not a matter of politics, but a matter of manners.
You seem to be reacting to Amadan's comment , but then condemning the entire thread as bashing the progressive left. And frankly, I don't see it that way at all. Indeed, I saw the title and OP as an invite to post examples of people acting like assholes on social media, not examples of what's wrong with the left.
Also, this thread is in current events, not politics, and I saw it as more of a playful, fun thread than a serious one.
(I say all that as a fellow member, not as a mod, by the way. In case it was not clear.)

...I saw the title and OP as an invite to post examples of people acting like assholes on social media, not examples of what's wrong with the left. Yes, that was the intent. This particular instance happened to have a political bent and the people behaving badly happened to be from the political left, but the point was as Cass also noted: they were/are apparently blind to why their behavior was bad (to put it mildly) and were intent on sharing their exploits on social media.

PSA: Anecdotes are not evidence. Hey, that's my line! Besides, that's not really an anecdote, since they documented it and shared pics on social media, and it was corroborated by others. And, would it be fair to just share a link to Alex Jone's YouTube account? Pretty much everything he does is jackholey.

This is true. ...I saw the title and OP as an invite to post examples of people acting like assholes on social media, not examples of what's wrong with the left. Yes, that was the intent. Fine. I withdraw my objection. For now. But I AM WATCHING YOU GUYS. PSA: Anecdotes are not evidence. Hey, that's my line! Where did you think I got it? Dammit! How about, a handful of incidents don't signify a trend. Anyhoo. Sorry if I overreacted. I'm not sure I have, based on not just this thread but others with it. You are all of course free to post as you wish regarding "liberals" and "progressives" and such, just as other sites are free to post as they wish regarding "conservatives" and "Trump supporters." I'm sure I've been guilty of viewing each as monolithic. I'm endeavoring not to do that. But that's for me, not for me to try to force on anyone else. Cheers to you guys and thanks for the responses. =)

A lot of us are used to being browbeaten by our liberal friends with goodthink. And a lot of boards have an explicit or implicit culture that basically shuts down anyone too far to the right or left. So yeah, you may be seeing more mockery of leftists than you'd like, but I think your own confirmation bias may be in play here - you have not objected to all the threads mocking Trump and excoriating the GOP.
