That reminds me, the race track opens here in Saratoga soon. Ug. It'll take an hour to go through town. If I'm lucky.

After visiting my Saratoga friends in and out of track season, I can definitely say I prefer it in the off season. (I prefer most places in the off season.)

I've lived up here nearly 18 years now, I haven't gone to the track once.

So. I made an early morning pit stop at the farmer's market. (I have no idea why they do it on Friday in my hood rather than on weekends. On the other hand, they do still seem to get plenty of people.)
Since I went before breakfast and was hungry, I stuffed my fridge with over $50 worth of fresh fruits and vegetables, including two quarts of strawberries. I live alone. I already had cherries, grapes, mangos and peaches in the house. I bought blueberries, too. (Yes, I like fruit. Why do you ask?)
On the one hand, this is better than buying $50 worth of gummy bears and twinkies. At least it will force me to eat healthily for a couple of days. Still, it is going to be a challenge to eat all of this while it is still at its peak.

An elderly couple, Herb and Ethel, suspected they might be having trouble remembering things. They relayed their concern to their doctor, who suggested medication. Herb and Ethel didn't really want to take more pills, so they decided to wait and see, and in the meantime, to practice remembering things, exercise their memory muscles, as it were.
That night, Herb asked Ethel if she would like some ice cream.
Ethel said, "Yes. And I'd like some chocolate syrup on it. Do you think you can remember that?"
Herb said, "Yes, I can. Anything else?"
Ethel said, "Some whipped cream would be nice. Do you think you can remember that, too?"
Herb replied, "Of course. Anything else?"
Ethel said, "And some strawberries. Are you sure you can remember all of this?"
Herb said, "Absolutely. Ice cream with chocolate syrup, whipped cream, and strawberries. Got it!"
Herb went into the kitchen. A half hour later, he returned to the living room and handed Ethel a plate.
On the plate were eggs, sausage links, and toast.
"Tada!" Herb said.
Ethel snorted in exasperation. "Herb, you dolt! I said bacon!"
