What a joke the legal profession has become... The head of the New York bar association in a recent interview with Thomas Binger asked Binger, deadly serious, if Binger intended to appeal the not guilty verdict and then retry Kyle Rittenhouse. So there's that....

I just want to be sure I'm clear on things.
1. Kyle Rittenhouse, a white dude, shoots three other white dudes. Because white supremacy.
2. Jussie Smollett, a black dude, hires two other blacks dudes to fake an assault on him. Because white supremacy.
Am I up to speed?

And somehow he still has a job as a "journalist". And these guys constantly wonder why no one trusts the press.

I've read several reports of South African officials feeling like the country is being punished for rapidly identifying a new variant. To a degree, I agree. Travel bans are, for the most part, absolutely pointless. Bans have shown over the course of the past two years to do nothing to stop spread. Especially when you have policies, like the US, that will announce a travel ban and then wait three days to implement it. Aside from that, all this manufactured panic is being caused by the possibility of an increase transmission rate and ignoring the fact that South African doctors are reporting current patients have extremely mild symptoms. Unusual but mild symptomsOf course media headlines are stopping at the "unusual" symptoms and leaving out the "mild" part. And also failing to report that by unusual, the doctors mean not typically seen with COVID, such as NO loss of taste or smell, NO fever, NO severe cough. Indeed the symptoms seem to be "...sore muscles and tiredness for a day or two not feeling well..." and "They might have a slight cough. There are no prominent symptoms." But I'm sure we'll follow the science. At some point at least.

Essentially life sentences for all three.

Huge differences in this case. These yokels started the shit, then shot the man when he dared fight back. They deserve zero mercy and I hope that is what they get.
I also hope there are serious inquiries into the behavior of the county DA office and local law enforcement.

One of the more entertaining things I have discovered online is that my Mexican (pardon me, LatinX) ass is apparently a Nazi and a White Supremacist because I can hold the two separate thoughts in my head that Kyle Rittenhouse was equally an incredibly naive dumbass for being present in Kenosha that night AND that he was justified in his self-defense claim.
Its kind of funny how many smooth brains in the twitter-verse seem to accept ADA Krause's claim that "Sometimes, you just have to take a beating."
Rittenhouse is also not any kind of HERO. His stupidity in being there cost two people their lives and gravely injured another. But being stupid isn't a crime, something a large portion of the online universe should be thankful for. Being stupid doesn't mean you have to let someone physically attack you. Being stupid doesn't mean you have to let someone jump kick you in the face. Being stupid doesn't mean you have to let someone whack you about the head with a skateboard. Being stupid doesn't mean you have to let someone point a gun at you when their intentions are not known. And, of course, being stupid doesn't make you a hero.

Basically, the judge is weaseling out of making a decision in case the jury returns with a NG verdict. If that happens, all the mistrial motions will be moot. With the publicity, which we know the judge is paying attention to due to his statements today, he's betting on a NG verdict would be better received than the judge stepping in.
A hung jury result (likely) or a guilty verdict and the judge is basically saying the prosecution is possibly in some deep shit if that happens.
That's my read on it at least.

Having PTSD myself and knowing several others that suffer the condition, Rittenhouse's breakdown on the stand was a textbook example of the anxiety attack brought on by the condition.
Contrary to what the media would have people believe, Rittenhouse is not a bad actor if that breakdown was an act. Indeed, he would possibly be the greatest performer to ever live, in my opinion.

The prosecution has rested.
As far as I can tell, the prosecution has managed to:
1, have their primary witness (Grosskreutz) admit Rittenhouse did not fire on him until he (the witness) pointed his gun at and advanced on Rittenhouse.
2, have several witness state Rosenbaum (the first person shot) was acting erratically and belligerently and also told Rittenhouse that if Rosenbaum found Rittenhouse alone, he would "fucking kill him".
3, have the prosecution's forensic pathologist testify the only way Rosenbaum ended up with a shot in his back was if Rosenbaum were lunging at Rittenhouse at the time he was shot. Testified that a hand wound on Rosenbaum was also consistent with Rosenbaum reaching for the weapon.
4, had their primary witness (Grosskreutz) admit to lying several times in his original statement to police
5, introduced video and witness testimony that confirmed Rittenhouse was fleeing the area and did not confront Huber (one of the deaths) until Rittenhouse tripped, Huber hit Rittenhouse with his skateboard, and then tried to grab Rittenhouse's weapon.
6, introduced video that showed Rittenhouse lower his weapon when Grosskreutz raised his hands in surrender and only raised it to fire when Grosskreutz later pointed his pistol at and advanced on Rittenhouse (corroborated as an accurate chain of events by....Grosskreutz himself).
It is almost as if the prosecution has tried to throw the case.
I think Rittenhouse is found guilty of the illegal weapons charge (obviously) and possibly of the reckless endangerment charge. I can't see any possible way any of the murder charges are upheld.
