Her twitter page is unbelievably typical, when it comes to the rabid MAGA twitter crowd. She's got 16k followers. Why? She doesn't offer up anything worth reading or seeing. She's mostly just retweeting bullshit. And all that bullshit she's reading and retweeting, it got her to actually get on a plane and fly to DC because she actually thought--it would seem--that she was going to be a part of something important and historic. She actually thought she was important, that her social media activity mattered, that she was making a difference. She's a fucking Air Force vet, for Christ's sake. She doesn't look like a complete moron. One would think she'd have some ability to spot bullshit, to know when she was getting played for a sucker. But no, she was taken in by the crap, taken in in full. I wonder what would happen if all social media was shut down for 30 days or so. Seriously. Because it seems to me that a good chunk of the population simply shouldn't be allowed to have internet access or cable/satellite TV. They should go back to getting their news from local TV stations and newspapers, or just not getting any news at all and thereby returning to a state of blissful ignorance. On this angle, check out the "logic" informing this bit of analysis: Mein gott. And he's got 58K followers... I'm not sure what he's referring to. What does "right about Pence" mean? Right about what?

EDITED TO ADD: Just saw that Rob posted this in the post right before this one. If anyone thinks I shouldn't have it up, I'll take it down. Actually, I'll go ahead and change it to a link, as opposed to a tweet. And I'll still remove the link if anyone thinks I should. Oh, I wasn't trying to insinuate anything. Apologies if it seemed that way. It's just that it's a video that shows someone get killed (from their own stupidity, tbh) and I know people have different sensibilities about stuff like that, and also wasn't sure if others here had seen it, so I figured they could Google for it if they wanted to.

shooting people who break into the capitol building during a protest/riot, then the same rules should apply across the board: shoot the people breaking into Target and other businesses during a protest/riot. I'll agree with this with one caveat: If Congress isn't in session. I believe having the legislature in session and an mob descending on the Capitol, possibly armed and with hostile intent elevates this from typical riot to a possible act of terrorism and a direct attack on the government of the United States. They found explosives, so at least a few in this mob definitely had deadly, terroristic intent. I think they found some on scene (not sure though) but one definitely got sent to the RNC headquarters. I view it differently than a mob raiding a Target (though I'm perfectly fine with a private business owner protecting their safety and their property with deadly force during a riot) because an angry mob - especially armed with explosives - raiding the Capitol or White House could do serious harm to the functioning of our federal government. It's not safe to see the mob, try to empathize with their issues, and then just kinda hope for the best. You have to view that mob like a it's plane full of terrorists heading toward the Pentagon on 9/11, intending to kill our top leaders. The same types of outcomes could happen if you just let the mob go unchecked (i.e., without using significant, potentially deadly, force to repel them) and you can't take that chance.

I agree here. While I won't celebrate any pointless loss of life (not implying that Opty is), I have to believe a trite saying holds true here: Play stupid games and you win stupid prizes. I also agree with Opty's earlier sentiment about the use of force. I think the security detail at the Capitol would have been justified in shooting every person that illegally breached the building. I won't link to it here but there is video of the actual shooting that some captured on their cell phone. It's currently floating around Twitter (as of last night). The lunatics were trying to break down / break through a closed, locked, barricaded door which led to (I think) the private offices of Congress members. The dead woman kicked through a window and was trying to climb through / break through to the other side when a Secret Service officer shot her from roughly 5 or 6 feet away.' EDITED TO ADD: Just saw that Rob posted this in the post right before this one. The guns were aimed at the mob (from behind the door) the entire time. There were windows on the door (that had mostly been cracked and broken out), and the agents yelled at the lunatics that they would shoot. She freely chose to kick in the window and try to climb through anyway, even with a Secret Service agent aiming a gun directly at her telling her he would shoot if she tried to breach. Though I'm sure it's tragic for her family, this woman was an absolute moron and a true Darwin Award HOF contender. Though I generally hate death, I have even less sympathy now that I've seen the video. She 100% brazenly and recklessly brought on her own death. Fucking moron.

I have little sympathy. If you look at her Twitter page, it's nothing but tweets and retweets of looney conspiracy theories spun by Lin Wood, Qanon, Trump and the sycophants who constantly try to verbally give his ballsack a daily tongue bath. twitter.com/Ashli_BabbittPerfect example is the last thing she posted (retweet) before she engaged in domestic terrorism: Also this:

Watching this bullshit unfold right now. I'm really surprised - and somewhat disappointed - that the Secret Service and Capitol Police didn't open fire once theses dumb hillbillies breached the doors and started breaking windows, let alone invaded the Senate floor. I did see where they had guns drawn on the inside of the House floor aimed at the doors. I would not have shed a single tear if they'd opened fire.
Also saw that one woman got shot in the chest. If she was an innocent bystander, then that's a tragedy and my thoughts are with her. If she was one of these domestic terrorist fucknuts, then I have zero sympathy.
I realize these lunatics don't represent all conservatives/GOP, but it's ironic how many of them complain (and rightly so) that the "peaceful protests" this summer were violent riots that should've been stamped down on hard by law enforcement, yet many of those same people are doing the exact same in DC today.
I hope every one of those arrested today is charged with sedition (because what they're doing literally is sedition) but I know that's probably just wishful thinking on my part.

I've noticed a curious tendency on both sides of the political aisle where they appear to lionize losers (i.e., people who clearly lost big battles). The right does it with Confederate generals. The left does it with candidates who "almost won."
It's weird.

Only 9% of the votes left to count and Perdue's and Loeffler's leads are holding. I think a lot of the remaining votes are from the Atlanta area? Not sure though. If that's the case, then perhaps the Dems can make comebacks. But, Perdue's lead is over 100,000 and Loeffler's is over 70,000, so the remaining 9% needs to go overwhelmingly for the Dems if they hope to win. Given that the votes will supposedly come from the metro Atlanta area (and Savannah), it's certainly plausible that they'll heavily favor the Dems, but I dunno. I'm a bit uneasy about how things will go.
Places like NYT still projecting the Dems to win both seats, but I'm still not convinced.
Also, based on the asymmetry in vote deficits, it's interesting that some of the Repubs voted for Perdue but not for Loeffler.
EDITED TO ADD:
Well, F me, I guess. Warnock has somehow found about 100,000 votes in the past 15 minutes and is now ahead by 20K. Perdue's lead down to roughly 20K also.
We've got barn burner on our hands, kids. It's like the election version of a Rocky Balboa fight.

Yet...Perdue is currently ahead by nearly 100,000 and Loeffler is suddenly ahead by 69,000.
84% of vote is in and I suppose anything is possible within that remaining 16%, given how many lead changes there have been.
But...I dunno.

I dunno, Ossoff and Perdue are now at 50/50, and Warnock is down to 51%. I'm not sure what's going on with the mail in ballots though. Have they already been counted? I'm also not sure which counties are left that might significantly swing things in one direction or the other. I'm not following it too closely because I'm working on a paper, but I have ABC's coverage on in the background. If someone else is following things more closely and can break it down for me, that'd be great.

It's only 8 o'clock, but so far both Dems are up with 54% of the vote each. Looking good for both of them but I know the night is young.
Fingers crossed it stays this way.
