WHERE was this "Ohio logic" applied, smart guy? Since you're so fond of referencing other sites, why not go all the way and name it. Let's see if you're sporting balls the size of an elephant or just dried Rasinettes. Not only is your "logic" skewed, you're the guy dumping on a 90-year-old Black man and then for comparison sake (a false one since I've never stated that dishonest quote) now you're deliberately lying to use me so you can dump on a 79-year-old Black man. You might want to try a wee bit harder to conceal your obvious race-based prejudices, but then again, if you're on a roll, keep on rolling. Oh look, an illogical, overly emotional reaction devoid of anything substantive. Thanks, I can set my watch now. Says the guy who manufactures quotes. I defer to your greater experience with an illogical, overly emotional reaction devoid of anything substantive. You got that ball rolling with your "Let's Shit On Chuck Berry" hateration OP. So you're saying Cassandra made it all up in her head? That's bullshit, but then you already bullshitted with your made-up "Ohio logic" quotes, so points for consistency. The question is, who do you think you're bullshitting, Opty? There's not enough newbies here for you to even and try and pull that con. Kicking around Chuck Berry for shits n' giggles doesn't have jackshit to do with a "fact-based argument". I'd happily be a Social Justice Warrior in the face of a reactionary, neo-liberal reactionary who reguarly shits on any manifestation of racism, sexism, homophobia and Islamophobia that doesn't match his own narrow parameters of what is acceptable, but I'm not a SJW. I'm just the guy who isn't impressed or intimidated by petulant displays of Neo-Liberal White Privilege. Not here, there, or "elsewhere." Says the intellectually lazy and dishonest guy who makes up quotes for intellecutally lazy and dishonest posts. Praise from Satan. Not everywhere. But in your posts? Consistently.

I think it's fair enough to acknowledge that heroes are flawed (to say the least), and there's been a large dose of ambivalence in this thread - it's kind of the crux of the discussion. And that's kind of my overall point; being great at a job doesn't make someone a great person. And, we can celebrate their art/achievements without lionizing them. But, it is a sad indictment of modern culture that the horrible behavior of celebrities is often quickly forgiven and forgotten as long as they can headline a summer blockbuster, fill an arena, or win your team a championship. Ah, the moral trade-offs we're willing to make in order to be entertained. It's even sadder how the righteous hypocrites who have achieved little to nothing of note take such gleeful pleasure in passing their saintly condemnation upon those who have become legendary. Fortunately, nobody outside of this board and whomever is unlucky enough to be in your Facebook newsfeed will pay this drivel any attention. Chuck Berry wasn't a perfect human being and most people know that and they aren't blind to his failiings. They just down for kicking around a dead man on a debate board for the mean-spirited amusement of the sanctimonious rabble.

Ohio logic: "Who cares if Chuck Berry violated over 200 women by illegally recording them, was arrested for child abuse, and arrested for taking a 14 year old girl across state lines for likely pervy reasons? There's no reason to point that out because he was still a great musician." Ohio logic applied elsewhere: "Who cares if Bill Cosby drugged and raped all those women? There's no reason to point that out because he was still a great entertainer." Uh-huh. And WHERE was this "Ohio logic" applied, smart guy? Since you're so fond of referencing other sites, why not go all the way and name it. Let's see if you're sporting balls the size of an elephant or just dried Rasinettes. Not only is your "logic" skewed, you're the guy dumping on a 90-year-old Black man and then for comparison sake (a false one since I've never stated either of those dishonest "quotes") now you're deliberately lying to use me so you can dump on a 79-year-old Black man. You might want to try a wee bit harder to conceal your obvious race-based biases, but then again, if you're on a roll, keep on rolling.

Okay, so Chuck Berry had some pervy habits. So does Gene Simmons and Mick Jagger, so when they kick the bucket let's check back to see if you start a thread to piss on their graves. I can still enjoy Ted Nugent's guitar playing while abhoring his caveman politics (and his love for underage girls). I still dig Miles Davis despite him putting his hands on Cicely Tyson. Ozzy Osbourne, David Crosby, Tupac Shakur, Rick James, Paul McCartney, Wilson Pickett, Billie Holiday, George Michael and Jim Morrison all spent time behind bars. Guess we should dump on those scofflaws as well.
So throw out all those Phil Spector-produced songs. He killed a woman. Like "Layla" by Derek and the Dominos? Well, stop because the drummer, Jim Gordon, killed his mom. Sid Vicious of the Sex Pistols offed his girlfriend. You should trash your Who collection since Keith Moon ran over his own chauffer. Vince Neil of Motley Crue got juiced up, drove drunk and ended up killing a musician friend. And don't have anything to do with anything associated with Matthew Broderick, Brandy, John Huston, Robert Blake, John Landis, Caitlyn Jenner or Laura Bush because they've all dropped bodies too.
This just goes to show there's always someone waiting to fling poo at a dead celebrity for not living a totally pure and pristine life. It's kind of petty and small, but if it gets the job done, I guess that's okay. There's a whiff of false piety in this thread or maybe it's just the rank odor of taking a giant shit on Chuck Berry's corpse.

The infernal lies of Donald J. Trump are threatening to swallow his presidency whole. Is Trump "The Kremlin President?" The FBI would like to know.

Some yuuuuge problems in no particular order: 1) North Korea - crazy dictator, launching missiles and threatening enemies, improving nukes 2) Iran - flaunting the "deal", sponsoring terrorism, clearly wanting nuclear capability and certainly doing all they can despite the "deal" to obtain it. 3) The Middle East in general (Syria in particular with Afghanistan close behind and worrisome trends in Turkey and Egypt) 4) radical Islamic terrorism 5) Our national debt which blossomed under Obama to 20 trillion 6) racial tensions, especially with police 7) healthcare in the U.S.and the failure of ObamaCare 8) our weakened military while staring at numbers 1, 2, 3, 4 and in the midst of number 5 9) activist judges like the one in Hawaii who try to control our President's executive orders using purely political rather than lawful decisions 10) I'm surprised you don't consider the breakdown of the Democratic party as a yuuuuge problem. It's seriously imploding. And the solution to this is not to try to destroy Trump with hysteria and exaggerations and illegal leaks and political judges and trying to force a scandal. Anyway, IMO the above issues are more important than Kelly Conway's sitting posture or Donald Trump's tax returns. 1. Crazy dictator? Sending off a SEAL to die in a botched raid that killed an 8-year old girl? Threatening allies? Submitting a budget that guts government agencies and hurts Trump voters and plows another $54 billion in defense spending for a U.S. military that already spends more money on defense than the next seven nations combined? Sounds like Donald Trump. 2 -4. Trump is not going to make the situations in the Middle East any better. What's the plan? Send in the Marines to Syria? Which side are they going to be fighting on? Afghanistan? Well, we've only been there since 2001, so if 16 years isn't long enough to get the job done, what's another two or three? Iran? Let's go in there like we went into Iraq. I'm sure things will go so much better this time. Conservatives always seem to think there's nothing wrong with the world that can't be made right by invading another country, stealing their oil and dropping bombs on them. 5. It's easy to bang on Obama about the national debt, but what does Trump's budget to reduce it? Not much. Drumpf says he's not going to raise the national debt in his plan to swell defense spending on finding new ways to kill people in large numbers, but he's going to gut programs and initiatives that will hurt Trump voters who aren't rich and well-connected as much as the non-Trump voters. The poor saps. 6. HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What makes you think anyone who would hire a White Nationalist scumbag like Steve Bannon as a counselor gives a shit about racial tensions? What makes you think anyone who refused to speak to the NAACP gives a shit about racial tensions? What makes you think someone who shouts and points, "Look at my African-American!" and says all Blacks live in horrible war zones gives a shit about racial tensions. What makes you think someone who hires a racist like Jefferson Beauregard Sessions who has nothing but hostility toward voting rights and federal oversight of rogue police departments, gives a shit about racial tensions? What makes you think someone who was the ugly face of White Birthers who wanted to de-legitimize the first Black president gives a shit about racial tensions? What makes you think someone who mocks, scorns, demeans and hates entire groups of Americans who aren't White gives a shit about racial tensions? What makes you think someone who spearheaded a "Whitelash" against eight years of a Black president gives a shit about racial tensions? What makes you think Trump wasn't elected BECAUSE the only shit he has ever gave about racial tensions was inflaming them?7-10. After the utter ridiculousness and abject absurdity of Number 6 I can't go on.

If I had to pick the one thing I loathe most about Donald Trump (and it's not easy only picking one thing), it would be the lying. Trump lies so much and when there's no reason to lie he lies even more. The man is incapable of telling the truth. What makes it worse is how Republicans have fallen in line with the lies because they want to press their political advantage. That, I can understand. What I can't understand is how they don't realize sucking up to Big Don is hurting the overall perception of the GOP. Not that that's a bad thing. Keep on lyin' Donnie and Republicans keep on sucking.

While we're being shallow: Trump seems to have gained weight over the last few months. At his age, he should take better care of himself. And I'm with Cass on Romney being handsome. Obama isn't my type. (not racist) Van Jones? Holy crap, is he handsome and sexy! Obama, not so much. What's so bad about being shallow? If you have eyes you can see when somebody is handsome or beautiful or curvy or muscular or ugly or sloppy or pudgy. That's just the way of the world. I didn't make it this way, I just live in it. Trump hasn't just "gained weight." He's a fat bastard. As much trash-talking as Trump has done about the appearance of women, it's totally fair to call him out for having Dunlap's Disease since it's apparent his stomach done lapped his belt. You're all very shallow. And quite creepy. Now, if we could have some pics of hot women in politics, we might really have something. And you call us shallow? But since I am.... Equal time for the ladies. What can I say? I'm just a swell guy.

I mostly struggle to call myself a journalist because I've been out of the business for so long, plying my trade as a copy-writer. I've been on the wrong side of the ethical fence for so long. But the reason I struggle to call myself a journalist is because there are a few I admire, and I don't want to compare myself with them. Then I realise why journalists are often down there with bankers and politicians in public perception, and it's because of stunts like this. This was literally click-bait in video form. I'm sure MSNBC was happy about the eye-balls seeing their ads, but it does no good for the company. And it does no good for Maddow. I think very highly of Rachel Maddow, savvy, super-smart and funny, but she totally face-planted on this one. As far as her being a "journalist" I know that in these days of traditional media dissolving like an Alka-Seltzer and the gatekeepers falling by the wayside, anyone can call themselves a journalist, despite her years on Air America and MSNBC, Maddow's education does not include journalism. One of the few trained, professional journalists hosting a cable show in the evening is actually Bill O'Reilly. Hate him or love him, you can't take that away from Bill-O. If Rachel Maddow had spent some time in classes above Journalism 101, she would have known one of the cardinal sins she committed Tuesday night. In other words, as one song goes, "Don't bore us. Get to the chorus." Maddow served up plenty of foreplay, but it was sadly anticlimactic. I know Trump sucks. I hate it that I have to refer to him as the President of the United States... Then don't. Works great for me! As to big problems, I remember Obama's rhetoric when he ran after Bush. And Bush's when he ran after Clinton. And so on. Our infrastructure STILL sucks, btw. How long have pols been harping on that? Oh, only about as long as pols have been blocking attempts to fix our sucky infrastructure.Obama and Trump can offer up any grand plan to fix America's infrastructure they want, but if the Congresscritters don't give them a dime to pay for it, a plan is all they can provide. From their marked indifference, you'd think the Republicans have a way of getting around that doesn't require highways, bridges or railroad tracks.

I don't really get any enjoyment from poking fun at people's personal foibles, no matter how odious their actions are. That said, I don't imagine putting up glamour shots of myself in my home, but I do seem to be vain enough to take a relatively good photo of me and turn it into an avatar. So I've got no high ground either. Still, if you squint, the photo could be Madonna as Norma Desmond... right? Wrong. Madonna is aging before our eyes, but she's not as stomped, whupped up and beat as Kellyanne Conway. Conway only looks good when Kate McKinnon is playing her. It's something I can't imagine for myself -- "honey, I got undressed in front of a stranger, just for you" -- but I can sure understand that other people would absolutely love it. And where, then, does this photo rank on a scale of 1 to Ben Carson and Jesus? Nowhere near as creepy or vain. As far as it being "cruel" to rag on Kellyanne's look, I got no shits to give. It's a sexist world and women get ragged on for superficial reasons. I'll be fair. Let's all laugh at how lumpy and dumpy Donald Trump is compared to President Slim.

I bow to no one in my loathing for All Things Trump, but that was one sorry-ass spectacle on Rachel Maddow and MSNBC last night. I don't get what all the hooping and hollering was about. You would have thought they had found a check made out to Trump with "V. Putin" on the signature line. If you're gonna come for the head of the king you'd better not miss. MSNBC completely whiffed on this one.

For someone's opinion that supposedy carries no weight you certainly spend fo a lot of time responding to it. But it does raise the question of whether making silly assertions and sillier animosity is your way of ducking out bringing any information to the debate besides your unsupported opinions? Sure I'm debating. With MichaelW and robeiae. With you? You're too busy repeating your Word of the Day: animosity. Any debate about Charles Murray glossing over the inherent and demonstrable racism of The Bell Curve is a profoundly shallow and intellecutally stunted one. Don't want to have that debate? Step out the way you came in. I've made my case how Murray and his shitty book are racist, Amadan. Balls in your court to make yours they aren't. Show, don't tell. Or keep ducking I already know which one you'll choose. You've made no case. You've stated your opinion, based on you being black and agreeing with a page from the SPLC. I didn't say Murray isn't racist (he is, though he is not, as Rob pointed out, a white nationalist, at least not from any evidence I have seen) - I said the central premise of the Bell Curve is not inherently racist. I also pointed out that it can, and has been, used to support racist arguments. There is a difference, but you've been too busy getting worked up, posting long diatribes about how totally chill and unbothered you are, and trying to provoke an intemperate reaction (give it up, you can't), to make such distinctions, all while laughably claiming you are "debating." Too late. Already got an intemperate reaction. My very presence here will always get a rise out of you. It has before and it still does. Wrong again. It doesn't matter to me what you and robeiae have said about The Bell Curve and MichaelW hasn't read it, but if you think majority rules in a thread, have at it. As far as yelling about racism goes, I'm not the guy who runs around bragging about how many Black people he hangs out with. Not that it means you actually know anything about Black people because clearly you do not. I'm not stomping my feet. I'm waking it up because it keeps falling asleep reading your dully repetitive posts. You aren't debating. You're screaming about racism. You won't answer my questions. You're mean to me. Yada-yada-yada. Wash. Rinse. Repeat. Still fillerbustering, huh?

The wage gap story fails at least two economic smell tests. First, if women's wages are only 78% of men's for identical work, working conditions and output, why in the world would anybody be foolish enough to hire a man? I know that in my job as Director of Information Services, if I had consistently been hiring employees asking 28% more than other, equally-qualified individuals, both HR and the company president would have been on my ass. Secondly, how are so many companies getting away with violating EEOC regs that they can depress one sex's wages by 22%? If the 78% factor is indeed true, isn't that a fine proof of government failure? Yes, my question is always, "Given that it's illegal, if wage discrimination is so prevalent, where are all the lawsuits?" There is an "earnings gap," of course. And there are many complex, mostly non-discriminatory, reasons why it exists. This is not in dispute. However, the main narrative behind the so-called "wage gap" (that the "gap" is 100% due to sexism) is a total myth. It's been debunked so many times that perpetuating it now is tantamount to lying. You guys are creativing your own narrative and it's a pretty false one. If there isn't an abundance of lawsuits on gender-based pay discrimination, that doesn't mean the discrimination isn't prevelant. What it means is the legal threshold to prove the discrimination is a high one to clear. There was a LOT more to the protests than simply wage inequity, but since it IS real and nobody is arguing ALL of it is due to sexism, that's a charge which makes no sense.
