The pink pussy hat project, if you haven't heard about it. www.pussyhatproject.comI admit, it makes me cringe. To me, it is not only useless, but tacky. I'd like any Trump protests to have the dignity and class that IMO Trump lacks. I cannot imagine Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton, or the Notorious RBG wearing a pink pussy hat; nor will I. (I chose number 4.) ETA: While I enjoy silliness and humor, I must say I don't find this protest witty or clever, either. Just kinda...cringy.

To be clear, it is not the women's march that makes me cringe. That has dignity. It's just the damn pink pussy hat thing.
I get that wearing a color or something symbolic has power. it's just...pink pussy hats? They're embracing that ugly word Trump used? And pink? And little ears. Ugh. Just...ugh.
I wish they'd stuck with something like wearing white to honor suffragettes.

According to their website, they're reclaiming "pussy" as a term of female empowerment. Also pink. The line I hate most: " in order to get fair treatment, the answer is not to take away our pussies." Ugh. Just fucking...ugh. I'm sorry, I'm a woman. I consider myself a feminist -- I expect equal pay, equal rights, and god help you if you talk down to me. I'm pro-choice. I'm pro-Planned Parenthood. But I don't relate at all to this shit. At. All. I do not see how using the word "pussy" empowers anyone, nor wearing pink, nor wearing something with little ears that looks totally fucking stupid.

I think the reaction from the men they are trying to make an impression on will be "Ain't they cute."
It may make them (and a nation full of crocheting slacktivists) feel good, but it's not going to have any impact.

I've read more people turned out for it in DC than for the inauguration, and of course it was all over the country. But the hat, IMO, adds nothing -- and indeed, to the extent it does anything, takes it all down a peg. It's cutesty and icky at the same time. I'm in sympathy with their causes, by and large, and I think the hat is ridiculous. I can't imagine it helps move anyone or anything that needs to be moved.

They're trying to make an impression on men? That's precious.
I don't get it either, but it probably has more of an impact than bitching on a message board.

Intelligent argument about women's issues might help move someone's opinion. Looking silly could actually backfire. Moreover, those are not the only two options available. Wearing the stupid hat probably makes them feel good. That's about it. By the way, knitting a hat takes a fair bit of time. Writing letters and making calls would be a better way to use those hours than knitting a pink hat with ears.

They're trying to make an impression on men? That's precious. Presumably. Do you think it's just about empowering women? According to their own press statement, it is about being heard and giving them a voice. Yeah, but we aren't making any claims that our bitching is making an impact.

Whatever.
Like I said, I don't get it, but at least they're doing something. I'm sitting here crying into my wine glass.

According to their own press statement, it is about being heard and giving them a voice. That sounds fine to me. How does that translate to "making an impression on men"? Men are marching too, btw. I'd wager at least some of them are wearing the hats.

We don't always have parties, but when we do, we solve world problems.

Men are marching too, btw. I'd wager at least some of them are wearing the hats. Likely. But they are not men who needed convincing on these issues. The fact that they are marching (women and men) will make some impact. This march had a big impact on cities everywhere today, just by virtue of their impressive size. The fact some were wearing silly hats added nothing. Those wearing silly hats and not marching? No impact. I have to add -- I despise the word "pussy" so much. I swear a blue streak, as you know, but never will I use that word (or "cunt", either). I hope no one "reclaims" it around me; they will likely regret it.
