Trump characterized his administration so far as a "fine-tuned machine", and of course, railed against the media, fake news, and leaks. Interestingly, while railing against the leaks, he also seems to be at least implying that some of what was "leaked" was "fake news": Dear President Trump:
I know as a rule it's easier to get your attention via morning news shows and twitter, but I have something important to explain, and naturally, I could only express it in Courier font.
Here's your problem: in order for information to be "leaked" it actually has to be true. Because, see, if it's not true, it never happened, and therefore couldn't be leaked by anyone. It's just a lie. A lie could have come from anywhere -- Elizabeth Warren, Russia, some 400 pound person, robeiae , Angie *...
Either it is lies -- hence, fake news -- or it was leaked. Choose one.
Sincerely,
CassandraW
P.S. -- It definitely could have been Angie.

Here's the transcript of the press conference, by the way. Read the goddamn thing -- it's freaking embarrassing and so full of shit. I seriously cannot fucking believe this guy is president. a snippet: But read the whole thing. It's word salad and an exercise in narcissism, delusion, and falsehood. And he's our goddamn president. Seriously. How. The Fuck. Did we get here. ETA: I predict I'm going to be doing a lot of swearing over the next four years.

It would be funny -- if it weren't for the fact that THIS is the guy who will be dealing with foreign leaders, both allies and enemies. THIS is the guy who will get the 3 a.m. phone call if we are attacked. THIS is the guy making decisions that will affect all of our lives for the next four years and beyond. THIS is the guy with his finger on the nuclear button.
If it were an SNL skit, it would be freaking hilarious (only way too over the top to be real, of course).
Given that he's our president, it is freaking terrifying.
Seriously, I can't laugh. I'm worried. Losing sleep-level worried that this guy is going to do things we can't fix.
ETA:
I mean, I'm still going to make jokes. That's what I do. But I'm not laughing.

Cheer up, Cass -- maybe it isn't all down to Trump. It can't happen with out all his governmental enablers. So, really, it isn't the single flap of one butterfly's wings; there's the denuded rainforest where it couldn't find a leaf on which to rest.

We are doomed. Doooooooomed. There ya go, conflating the whole of humanity with a relatively small number of insane individuals who have managed to gain control of weapons of mass destruction because people believe their claims of legitimacy. When will we get rid of the myths that put the whole planet at risk? The hatted poet had an important message up there.

I was amused. Is that wrong? So was I. Vintage Trump. Obviously, becoming President hasn't changed him much at all, so far. He did spout a lot of nonsense and bullshit in that presser, imo. But good grief, most of the press is just playing right into his hands. They're giving him exactly what he wants, helping to make it all personal and not about facts or specific issues. This is what he did to his Repub rivals in the primaries. This is what he did to Clinton (when most of her supporters insisted that she's never be successfully baited in this manner).

There is a serious point here. The more people (including the media) LOL at Trump - "What a buffoon! What a maroon!" - the more it looks like media elites sneering at an outsider. To the Joe Six-packs who voted for Trump, that looks at an awful lot like sneering at them.

Fuck yes, it's serious. This ranting, impulsive, narcissistic, dishonest, egomaniacal asshole is president.
I don't know how to pretend he's anything else. My not calling him a buffoon isn't going to make Joe Sixpack think twice about Trump, if he hasn't already, and if calling that buffoon a buffoon only makes them double down. The only thing that might make such a person think twice about him is a complete unmitigated disaster that directly affects his own wallet or safety and that can only be attributed to Trump's policies. Even then...
IMO, there's no point trying to reach those people. it's the saner Republicans, the ones who don't actually like this circus sideshow, who are holding their nose out of party loyalty, who might, maybe, finally come around. They're the ones we need to find a way to work with, for the good of our damn country.
If we don't point out Trump is a lying buffoon, we are legitimizing whatever the hell that was yesterday. We are saying it's OK for our president to act that way. And IMO, if we do that, we are lost.
