According to my weather station at the house, winds have only hit 12 mph, but we've had 4.5 inches of rain today. My brother in Yulee, inland fro Amelia Island, is reporting wind gusts in the high 20s. So far he's had worse weather than us.
The swimming pool is overflowing, but no signs of any damage in the area yet.
We live just north of a fairly big lake, and it always gives us a little different microclimate than even in Sebring, 10 miles away. It looks like for once it's working in our favor.
Of course, this may all change at any moment.

There was a group planning to use positive energy to force Irma back out to sea and away from the east coast. Haven't seen any posts from them in a while. 😁
Winds have doubled and over 7 inches of rain at the house so far. I'm glad we're not home.

The eye is about at Sarasota. Mom and Dad are just north of there - they lost power a few minutes ago, but had enough phone reception to send a message to tell us. The path is going just about over them, but it's a Cat 1 and not Cat 3, so there's that.
Based on the Weather Channel, they should be just over the very worst of the winds, and it'll be down to manageable in a few hours. Almost out of the woods - really looking forward to knowing just how okay they are!

My night sleep got a bit disrupted by Irma, despite me being so very far away. I just found out a few hours ago that a friend of mine had grabbed a late vacation - in Orlando. And now he's gone silent. He probably just ran out of mobile phone battery or something. But, sleep probably won't come until I hear from him.

He may well be asleep - or saving battery power. Maybe no access to recharge, and who knows how many days until power will be restored? My mom told me she would buzz in at 10am and 10pm if power went out. But yeah... I want to know too. Mom sent a message an hour ago. Dad was asleep, and the storm felt like a bad storm from when they lived on a boat. This was at the height of things, and the eye passed near them. So, if she could put in familiar context, and they're sleeping, I think they're going to come out fine. That's everything I could hope for. I hope your friend's story is like that, and I'll put a bet on it.

Sudden cravings for Disney World disrupting sleep globally. Or something. But yeah, the reason he's not giving any life-signs is probably trivial. Dead battery. Or no mobile phone coverage. I suppose mobile receivers have taken a battering too.

Lost power to the house, but last peak wind Insaw were around 70, so things look fairly good. The eye passed about 35 miles west of the house. Ex-marine stepson in Lakeland was unimpressed.

I hope everyone in Florida made it through to the other side unscathes, healthy, and without catastrophic property destruction. Check in if you can so we know you're okay.
Personally, I got in touch with my friend finally. He had spent more than a day locked in a concrete hotel that had groaned as if it would fall over at any minute, but it held well. The outside looked like a disaster film though.

Came through unharmed in Sydney. Mom and Dad, in Bradenton (outside St Petersburg), reported one piece of flashing down, and a control box cover fell off. A couple of palm fronds and branches. Otherwise, perfect. Unbelievable! So, very happy and grateful - and wishing good news for the people with weather still on the way.

Yay, poet! Now we just need to hear from Robo, and to hear if Don's house made it ok.
Thanks for the info on insulin, Don! Sorry I missed that earlier! I texted it to my friend - she's a worrying mom.

Still no word on the house, but indications are good. Pictures of the general area tell me the house is probably fine, but I'm not taking bets on the condition of the carport and the car under it. Hopefully we can get in touch with someone nearby soon. Cell towers are down.
Glad the insulin info helped.

I'm fine. No power, no cell, no internet. May be days before I can check back.

Good to hear from you Robo. I'm glad you're fine. We'll be here when you can come back - although maybe @cassandraw has redecorated the place to a mosh pit kind of den of iniquity by then with gaudy plastic pink flamingos all over the place and Epcot themed moonshine from Angie's stills ..

You know, this is a really good plan. Don, you're in charge of pink flamingos and illicit drugs. Angie's obviously in charge of the moonshine and fireworks. Max, maybe you can take care of coordinating the music. The rest of you can just run amok for now. I'll come up with chores for you later. I still haven't heard from my Florida friend. I know from Twitter that downtown Jacksonville and Amelia Island were badly flooded (Amelia Island actually suffered worse storm surge than anywhere else in the country for some reason, as well as having three twisters touch down), and that all of Amelia Island is without power. I think I definitely made the right call in advising my friend to evacuate and go inland, but then again she may be without power and flooded where she is (Yulee). I'm not worried yet, since I expected it would be a day or two before I heard from her. I'm assuming she's alive but has a lot of stuff to contend with before emailing friends in other states.
