I can understand not accepting those who are in the process of transitioning, but it seems that once the transition is complete and they are on a stable medication regimen and feeling well, why not?
And once again, Trump used Twitter to make an announcement devoid of sensitivity/compassion/tact. *sigh*

I'm planning on seeing Dunkirk this coming weekend, so can't comment much, but I will say that I don't think this is a generational thing with regard to filmmaking. Christopher Nolan certainly has delved into character in some of his other movies like Memento and The Dark Knight. I believe this was purposeful on Nolan's end - see the title "Dunkirk" as compared with "Saving Private Ryan". (although this doesn't work for Gallipoli, haha) I've read an article or two about Nolan and this film, and he does seem very concerned with bringing the audience into the battle - he's been obsessive about the visuals and sound, even to the point of traveling to some theaters to ensure they can present it in the best way. Here's what one reviewer says: collider.com/dunkirk-oscar-chances-christopher-nolan/

HAHAHAHA! I just texted a pic of that to my 19 yo psychology/sociology double major daughter. She was just talking to me about queer theory and gender theory yesterday as she read a chapter on that. And unfortunately, since she came home for summer, I have heard her say "AF". I'm also having a hard time wrapping my head around this whole 'gender/sexuality is a social construct' stuff. Isn't that what people used to say---and got burned for saying? What about Lady Gaga's song? (Born this Way) Maybe I will start a thread about it. Anyway, that comic was funny, thanks.

Yeah, NT -- Kelli Ward is acting like a piece of s**t. And I think it's going to cost her a lot of votes. Vulture is the perfect word to describe her.

Referencing our other thread on Comey, well, we now know McCain wasn't drunk during Comey's testimony. And I feel badly, because I laughed at the Muffin Man meme we posted, even though I knew something was wrong that day (I suspected dementia). McCain has an unspeakably tough road ahead in a life that already has had far too much suffering. No one recovers from this sort of tumor, barring a miracle. It is the most aggressive brain cancer one can have. I've had two friends, a family member, and more than enough patients with this to know how awful it is. The likelihood of him returning to work is very small.

Well, when I voted for him, I didn't like him at all. I was intrigued by the idea of a non-politician becoming POTUS, but yeah I was definitely voting more against Clinton than for Trump. It was not easy to punch that ballot, and I had not made up my mind even while walking into the voting booth. But these relentless attacks, many of which are obviously exaggerated and unfair, are making me sympathize with him. And my respect is growing for his non-wimpiness. I think most of the prominent main stream Republicans are pretty wimpy when you get right down to it. And a lot of people are too intimidated to admit they have some like for Trump. I was for a while. I'm less so now, mostly due to the viciousness of the opposition. I'm expecting Trump to make mistakes, but I'd rather he make some mistakes than simply be a pawn. And I like many of the people he's chosen for his admin.

This is just not a surprise. Handel lived in the district for years, Osoff never did. And really, in the trenches of regular humans (not elite pundits/newspeople/politicians), things just aren't so bad since Trump was elected. As a matter of fact, my retirement fund is looking pretty good, thank you very much. And every day that tiny unimportant stuff is blown out of proportion by the left (Trump's poor person comment, covfefe, Melania taking a while to move into the White House, Trump's comments to Comey, etc. etc. ), people are becoming weary and even disgusted with the constant stupid irrelevant attacks. And I suspect they are becoming more sympathetic to a man who is not a politician trying to be POTUS while continuing being attacked on many sides, mostly unfairly. And truly, this RUSSIA stuff is getting completely tiresome and ridiculous Yes, investigate Russia, but for the love of God quit wasting time and resources trying to tie Trump to any collusion. You would have found it by now! I actually love Trump's ability to be blunt and frank with things such as the Paris Climate Accord, or the UN, or NATO, or the London Mayor (get your heads out of the sand, Londoners). And to be perfectly honest, I like him more now than when I voted for him. (To partially borrow a line from Cass - Ban me if you must ) Of course I don't agree with everything he does or says, but for this conservative, I agree with enough and I know he's doing better things than Hillary would have been doing. And I do think he's going to grow into being a better POTUS. The Dems are in big trouble. Maybe they should slow their constant barrage of petty attacks against the administration and use that energy to figure out their own issues.

Catechism of the Catholic Church 1260: "Since Christ died for all, and since all men are in fact called to one and the same destiny, which is divine, we must hold that the Holy Spirit offers to all the possibility of being made partakers, in a way known to God, of the Paschal mystery."63 Every man who is ignorant of the Gospel of Christ and of his Church, but seeks the truth and does the will of God in accordance with his understanding of it, can be saved. It may be supposed that such persons would have desired Baptism explicitly if they had known its necessity. www.scborromeo.org/ccc/p2s2c1a1.htmThe Catholic Church is really not as bad as a lot of people claim it is.

Go ahead and don't believe for one cold microsecond, too. If I demanded that about Clinton in your hypothetical that has no basis in reality, then I'd have to give good reasons why that behavior is illegal. All he was asking is that Comey let out the truth - Trump was not being investigated. Heck, experts are saying even the Flynn comments aren't obstruction. If Alan Dershowitz can't demonstrate obstruction, I doubt I could. www.foxnews.com/opinion/2017/06/07/dershowitz-comeys-statement-fails-to-deliver-smoking-gun-democrats-craved.htmlGiven the concern in a democracy that law enforcement could abuse power, it makes sense that our highest elected official would have power over law enforcement. Once again, as I've been saying for a while, this hysteria is a concerted effort to bring down a democratically elected POTUS that some people aren't happy with. Methinks they're going to have to do better than that.

I just cannot take the hysteria of CNN over the last 2 days. Could they try any harder to find the one or two lines out of Comey's statement that sound the most damaging out of context and then splash them across the headlines in the largest font I have ever seen? This is ridiculous. I used to read CNN every morning to make sure I got "balance". (At least comparing it to the other stuff I read including Fox). But this is seriously beyond the pale. I'm done with them.
And I don't see anything egregious about Trump wanting to let the public know he wasn't being investigated. It might be bad form. It might be something a POTUS shouldn't do. But illegal, obstructive behavior? Doubt it. But Trump is still acting like a businessman who wields a lot of power. He needs to learn to act like the POTUS. It's a painful learning curve but what do you expect when you elect a non-politician? Breaches of protocol will be made, especially if the person is hard-headed like Trump. Too bad for the anti-Trump crowd things don't look as bad as they've been hoping. Though they will take anything they can, exaggerate, and run with it. (And make the font huge)

Some of us here are arguing this is just one slip up, and unfortunately they got hammered pretty hard for it. I see that point.
But I tend to agree with Cassandra here -- we are talking about one of the most elite colleges in the U.S., if not THE most elite. The competition is almost unbelievable. If one C (HECK, even one B!) or one point on the ACT is enough to ruin your chances, why isn't one pretty stupid (though not criminal or even pathologic) behavioral misjudgment? And yeah, Cass is right, so many kids are just as qualified who do not receive that acceptance letter. Sometimes it seems like a crapshoot, and I really think it often is once you reach a certain threshold of viability for acceptance. So it doesn't bother me too much to give the acceptance to another equally deserving student who hasn't publicly advertised that their frontal lobe is still not fully developed.

Yup, they have always wanted more than pure academic grind. That helped me get into Dartmouth Med School, so I know it from a personal perspective. And of course not ALL kids are like that. But have you gone through the college application process with anyone lately? It's VERY different from when I applied and I assume from when you applied. I just went through it with my daughter. The common app has significantly increased the number of applicants to each school, and the academic pressure on kids these days is immense. Way worse than a decade or more ago. Kids are taking 5 AP classes at a time. That's more than a normal college load! And with that sort of academic load plus music or sports, who has time for a real job? Or an authentic teen life? Some kids do, but certainly the minority if I look at my daughter's high-achieving peers. (We live in an affluent area where Ivy/Stanford/Berkeley et al are highly sought after) The helicopter parent situation has increased, and a lot of the extracurriculars aren't very real-world. Of course I'm not talking about ALL Ivy League kids. But it's an unhealthy situation for college-bound kids these days.
