I would LOVE to live somewhere where we don't have to worry about how slow things are. I think that every time I visit my daughter in Eugene, Oregon. Where I live, near Los Angeles, people are constantly rushing and impatient. I've been honked at if I don't start accelerating within 1 sec of a stoplight turning green, and I'm not exaggerating. I've been not uncommonly tailgated while driving close to 80mph in a 65 zone. It's crazy here.

First of all, I want to thank Robo for taking the time and energy to create this space where we can come together each day, joke around, and have serious discussion without fear of it descending into insults, and where diverse viewpoints are given fair time. And to Cassandra for her amazing energy and enthusiasm in nurturing this fledgling forum. Her wit and intelligence and kindness are perfect for moderating here, and she has unending patience for my emails (she should bill me for psychotherapy). And Angie who has me cracking up CONSTANTLY, holy hell girl - how you so hilarious?. And Don who is wise and funny and always mentions some person or theory I've never heard of and have to run to go look up. And RT who has sharp fangs but hasn't bitten anyone yet (that frown belies an underlying sweetness - yeah admit it.) And Vince who consistently takes a kind and centrist approach, and Christine who is whip smart and a sweetie, and Haggis who is just simply Haggis and we all know why that's excellent, and Amadan who years ago used to make me mad but whom I've come to respect a ton, and poetinhat who is simply a sweetie, and tanstaafl who I don't think I know unless he has another name at another website but who is awesome nonetheless, and ben whom I don't know very well either (but have to turn away from his avatar), and ohio who is a semi-latecomer but one we were hoping would join us here and whose posts sometimes infuriate me, sometimes surprise me, and always make me think. We are making this new place fun and stimulating, and hopefully the base for a website that continues to grow and will last a long time. That said, I'd like to offer you (and anyone who's browsing and would like to attend) a virtual invitation for a Thanksgiving feast at my imaginary home. It seems that my imaginary uncle died and left me a fairly expansive cabin in the mountains that sits on a peaceful lake. Today, the morning mist obscured most of my view out of the grand glass wall that overlooks that lake, but it's cleared up now and promises to be a wonderfully clear and gorgeous afternoon. And I've got a bird in the oven, and my special cornbread sausage stuffing assembled. Spicy apple cider is bubbling on the stove. A big fire is crackling in the fireplace. And interestingly enough, the scenic road that leads up to my cabin takes the same amount of time to get here from anywhere in the country! About an hour. How's that? So you all are invited for shenanigans here today, hopefully ending in a splendid meal once we add the potluck dishes you all bring. I've got bottles of homemade syrah from the mini vineyard out back, but other alcohol is welcome. Come one come all! Hope to see you here! Let me know who's coming and what dish you are bringing, so I can set the massive table made from reclaimed wood from an abandoned barn (of course) *runs back to the kitchen to put the stuffing in the oven (I guess technically it's called dressing, since the idea of stuffing it into the bird sort of repulses me. Not to mention I don't particularly like salmonella).

I'm heading into work now so only time for a drive by post, but this is another example of Trump surprising us with his post-election actions. I never thought he was the buffoon that everyone says he is, though he does act like it at times. I think he's smarter than people give him credit for, and I think we all know he's shrewd and savvy and knows how to get things done. As I said early on, this is a fascinating experiment. I hope it continues to go well.

I have a feeling little Barron and Melania will be traveling to DC on weekends, not Trump to NY. Once Trump starts the job and sees how busy he is, and the hassle of him going to NY, I don't think he will do it much. I also think Melania is a little shell shocked right now and trying to keep some normalcy. They will adjust.
And yeah, Cass, I have rich friends who do that "live someplace else for the summer while dad stays in the city and works" thing. It's weird.

I'm not sure if blogs are the sort of thing we are supposed to recommend here, but I want to give a shout out for Victor Davis Hanson. victorhanson.com/Yes, he is a conservative. What I love about him (well, there are lots of things), is his bounty of historical knowledge, especially of the ancient world, and how he is able to use that knowledge hard won from the past, and turn it into wisdom for us today. He has written history books and historical fiction. And he has insightful commentary on the politics of today. I just think he's smart and wise, and I've learned a lot by reading his essays. I really like his latest - victorhanson.com/wordpress/who-are-wise-who-not/The advice he gives to Trump at the end of the essay is excellent.

Shout out to Vince from another of the rare breed who has never smoked pot or a cigarette. One thing I was recently reading about is the increased frequency of overdoses and 911/ER activity for folks who don't: 1) understand how edible pot works - ex. 1 bite out of a cookie not the whole cookie is often the correct amount, as well as the onset takes over an hour for edibles unlike smoking, so people take more and more because it's "not working", then have ingested way too much. 2) know the increased potency of todays MJ compared to that from years/decades ago. Apparently, it's a different animal Here's an article slanted one way: www.thecannabist.co/2016/01/14/pot-emergency-room-marijuana-er/42939/And here's an article without quite that same slant: www.cnn.com/2016/02/24/health/colorado-pot-er-visits/Other concerns I have are related to kids taking up the habit. I think we're pretty aware of what regular pot use does to energy and drive. As well as driving under the influence which has a host of problems in terms of evaluating an impaired driver. I'm not sure what data we already have from states which have already legalized, but there should be something to look at there.

HAHAHAHAHA on the thread title! It IS pretty accurate. Heh, Smart Balance would be accurate for this site too. I wonder how many other brands of margerine would aptly describe TCG. I do feel like being really silly (stupid?) today and not posting anything intelligent, sorry. I will try to resist further temptation. Oh, who am i kidding?

You don't think #alwaysTrump would garner some high brow discussion?

Another suggestion (from someone who doesn't know a lot about social media, haha) for possibly garnering more members, or at least getting more people to come take a look -- maybe when we Tweet about TCG, we can try to use a popular hashtag, perhaps one that relates to the thread we're Tweeting about? There are lots of Trump hashtags. Just a thought.

Yes, Trump said MANY things during the election that were clearly meant to energize people but that were either not realistic or were things he really didn't mean to ever do, or were misspoken (which he has an unfortunate and worrisome tendency to do). It was obvious the day after the election, by what he said and how he said it (very kind to Clinton), that he wouldn't pursue this.

Regarding Sessions being racist -- we've got hearsay from 30 years ago, and we've got decades of his work and words since then. And that work includes prosecuting the KKK to the full extent of the law including insisting on the death penalty for a klansman (who was the son of the Alabama KKK leader) who killed a black man, acknowledging and working to address bias against blacks in policing as early as 2001, filing several cases for desegregation in Alabama schools as a U.S. Attorney, spearheading giving Rosa Parks the Congressional Gold Medal. And he is on record many times speaking against racism and discrimination such as in housing.
If we're trying to be unbiased here, for just a moment, can anyone imagine knowing the KKK well enough during his time prosecuting them for murder, that he could make a sarcastic comment such as "I thought the KKK was OK until I found out they smoked pot." I mean SARCASM. Please. It's like saying, "I liked ISIS until they destroyed that library." Come on, folks.
